The mysterious number *7* in Tsubasa

Ohkawa loves using the number seven. She even has the Kanji for seven (七) in her nickname (大川 七瀬)....But that's expected since she has a huge interest in a wide variety of religion, occult, and mythology. In X/1999, the idea of the Seven Seals is taken right out of the Book of Revelations. The number 7 is used over 50 times in that one book and somewhere over 500 in the whole Bible. Aleister Crowley, who undoubtedly served as inspiration for Clow Reed, wrote that 777 represented the flaming sword (Hien? lol) that the angel used to drive Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden. Seven is perfection and goodness, it's the completion of cycles of time, seven steps to enlightenment, seven classic planets, seven realms of consciousness, seven heavenly branches, seven days, seven virtues, seven archangels---in short, the significance and importance of the number seven can be rather endless.

The over-saturation of seven in this series is sort of like the continuous use of 3 in Tokyo Babylon, right? ^^ Seven is a much more hopeful number than 333 lol

Sometimes with Tsubasa I think of a mix of numerology and religion when it comes to 7. It's kind of interesting when you think about it:

3 + 4 = 7
So Seven represents the joining of body (4) and soul (3) such as with Sakura.
Or of Earth (4) and Heaven (3) such as what Fei Wang is attempting to do in order to revive someone.

O_O Wow, that is very intresting and cool. I knew that the whole angels and seals came from somethin else (I've been actually looking through the Bible and some books on Myths on it XD) now I wanna get that Revealtion book to see! Lol

Oh, and I never notice about the TB volumes how there's 7 volumes, very good observation there.

What you write is really interesting, but I don't know how you come to the conclusion that the body is 4 and the soul 3. Of course, 3+4 is sevem but I don't think that this is important^^'

I thought of the 3+4=7 because of the Sacred Hebdomad and it's ties to Babylon. Since Ohkawa has a deep interest in Babylon, she has to be aware of the sacred equation too. Assigning 3 and 4 to soul and body respectively isn't random at all, I'm just stating facts from other schools of thought that have been around forever, most of which she has already tied into manga. Whether or not this has anything to do with Tsubasa isn't for me to say since I'm not CLAMP, but nothing in this world is coincidence, right? ^^ It's just sort of fun to think about, that's all <3

There's a lot of different areas where body and soul (4,3) came from, though. Four would get rather lengthy even if I try to be concise but a quick sample would be that four was originally drawn as a cross in ancient texts to represent both man and a tree. While 3 if you look has three level to it's characters a top, middle, and bottom. It can represent things that will never change like the Holy Trinity; heaven, earth, hell; birth, life, and death; past, present and future.

I'll have to look through the CLAMP interviews I have, maybe I missed that part where they say that Tsubasa would have an unhappy ending if they finished X...

Well, i guess you will have mixed it up with Seishiro who is one of the seven angels and the the Sakurazukamori...and Subaru becomes an angel and Sakurazukamori by killing Seoshiro. So i think, that you just heard that part Sakura andd did not noticed the zukamori behind that. I think it would be just too complicated to put Sakura into X^^ not that that would be a hindrance for CLAMP.
