Spring 2009 Preview! Empty Spring 2009 Preview!

Post by CuteSherry Fri 03 Apr 2009, 20:27

Spring has come! And together with it tons of new anime ^__^

[thread in construction, there are a lot of anime and I can't add them up and comment on them all at once ^^;]

    Spring 2009 Preview! Basara

Sengoku Basara - Premiere on April 1st, 2009
    Official webpage: http://www.sengokubasara.tv/
My POV: this anime is based loosely on the japanese 16th century history and it's being worked on production IG. So no worry on the animation quality which will be awesome (as proven in the promo vids bellow).
I personally love historic anime with swordplay, so I'll be watching for sure. My evaluation might change after watching the actual thing of course...
My evaluation: looking forward to it ^^ But it's the 'serious' type of anime so I don't think I will get too excited watching either? aha~

Promo Videos (4 - click to play them):
    Spoiler:

    Spring 2009 Preview! Queenzzg

    Queen’s Blade - Rurou no Senshi - Premiere on April 2nd, 2009
    Official website: http://queensblade.tv/
My POV: don't be fooled by the 'nice' picture above, this is definitely not what you might have imagined it is at first sight...it gives off a fantasy like anime feeling (it's the adaptation of a game after all...) but this show is extreme ecchi with abundant nudity and b**bs shots every min. ^^;; If you're interested though, have fun ;) Some stuffs are quite absurds though... (like a warrior using her breast as a weapon and having them blown off, or another using them as rockets *no comment*)
My evaluation: THE WORST, girls fighting with their...bodies parts? Story plot inexistent? Oh wow, so interesting ¬__¬

Promo video and some snapshots - WARNING NUDITY -
    Spoiler:

    Spring 2009 Preview! Asuram

Asura Cryin’ - Premiere on April 2nd, 2009
    Official website: http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/asura/
My POV: I do not have a clear POV on this ^^; The summary I read of it (a boy is haunted by his (female) childhood friend. The story also involves a mysterious suitcase, a destroyed world, and a dimension traveling mecha...) gave me mixed feelings about it...
The promo commercial didn't give up too much either...but I have a *very* long experience in anime watching those past 20+ years, and I say: this might end up being, at best, a nice show to pass time with, but I'm not expecting it to turn into any kind of masterpiece...and if I think it might end up being bearable to watch, it's because its an adaptation from a series of novels: with novels backing it up, the material of this anime *should* turn out quite 'solid' and intricate...or not?
    My evaluation: DECENT?

    Spring 2009 Preview! Basquashr

    Basquash! - Premiere on April 2nd, 2009
    Official website: http://basquash.com/
My POV: when I saw a double page featuring it in my Newtype a couple of months ago I...wasn't impressed at all!! I did an amateur error = judging an anime from a picture *hiding in shame* But it *did* caught my attention!! :P
But the promo that was shown right after the last episode of Gundam00 s2 left me mouth hanging: it looks damn good!
On the planet Earthdash, its inhabitants gaze on its moon and the technologically advanced lunar city of Mooneyes with awe. Dan JD, a boy living in Rollingtown on Earthdash’s surface, gets caught up in Bigfoot Basketball — a fast-paced sport played with giant Bigfoot robots. From the creator of Macross Frontier comes a new series about basketball playing mecha that features shoes designed by NIKE. Ok, so it DOES sounds weird said like that ^^;; But I have a good feeling about it and can't wait to see the actual thing :D
And my anime/manga instinct is rarely wrong ^___~
My evaluation: TRY IT OUT, DEFINITELY!! A MUST!

    Spring 2009 Preview! Pandorahearts

    PandoraHearts - Premiere on April 2nd, 2009
    Official website: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/ph/
    My POV: to all the PandoraHearts fans out there, don't jump at my throat too fast, but I really can't say I was too impressed with the volumes of the manga I read...Note that I'm not saying it's bad or anything! Hey! I *did* read several volumes after all! But I did not turn into a crazy fan nor lurked around staying on the watch for every new chapters released, if you see what I mean...actually it's been *a while* since I've last read a chapter ^^;;
The commercial is actually quite fine and made me want to take a look at the actual anime, so I guess I'll be watching it ^^
That said, I wasn't impressed neither by the opening animation neither by the song -__- The raws of the first episode is already available online so feel free to take a look.
    My evaluation: NICE.

    Spring 2009 Preview! Konp

    K-ON! - Premiere on April 2nd, 2009
    Official website: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/k-on/
My POV: It's about a group of girls who join their school’s music club and form a band consisting of guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums. Needless to say, this is a light hearted comedy with no too much complications in sight...I generally like music oriented anime and will certainly take a close look at this one (the subbed episode 1 was already releases actually, I will download it later). I already read a detailed review and saw tons of snapshots though, and also know what 'type' of anime it is: I will watch it, but I can already tell this won't be the best series I'll be following this season...that said, I have to confess the heroine is very endearing :) She is clumsy, has no tempo at all, can hardly walk straight and joined the music club without knowing anything about music, totally hopeless ^^;; It will definitely be entertaining following her as she learn to play guitar and enter in the music world!
    My evaluation: This is NICE.

    Spring 2009 Preview! Phantomb

    Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ - Premiere on April 2nd, 2009
    Official website: http://www.phantom-r.jp/
My POV: Drama drama drama...but also action, gunfights and violence. Adaption of the Nitro+ visual novel Phantom of Inferno. In the American underworld, Mafia leaders are being killed one after another, with rumours of “Inferno” and the organisation’s top assasssin “Phantom” circulating around them. A boy, traveling alone in America becomes involved in one of these incidents and unexpectedly encounters Phantom. I won't spoil anyone telling you the 'Phantom' is a young woman, and that the boy which seems 'normal' at first sight actually have the potential to be an assassin himself...and this anime is their story.
The PV is interesting and an anime featuring assassins and the underworld's life in general should be nice? The animation quality is good too. But again, like many others series I reviewed before in this listing, I still don't think this is going to be a huge hit this season. Still, the story plot description and the PV were captivating enough to make me want to see how it's like.
    My evaluation: DECENT.

    - Premiere on April 3rd, 2009
    Official website: http://hayatenogotoku.com/
My POV: sequel to the 1st 51 eps long season with the same name.
My evaluation: this is a popular show...which I didn't watch entirely ^^; But I know it got good reviews and was evaluated positively. This is GOOD.

    Spring 2009 Preview! Gokujou

Gokujou!! Mecha Mote Iinchou - Premiere on April 4th, 2009
    Official website: http://mechamote.tv/
My POV: "Based on shoujo comedy manga series Gokujo!! Mecha Mote Iincho (The Best!! Extremely Cool Student Council President). The series, which has been serialized since January 2006, tells the story of Mimi Kitagami, a high school girl that aims to be her school’s best student council president despite having a crush on one of the school’s three most troublesome boy students.".
    Spring 2009 Preview! Mechamoteiinchou
Do I need say more? This is p-u-r-e shoujo.
My evaluation: a 'simple' anime with not too much thinking to make nor complications can be unexpectedly charming and refreshing :) I'll be checking what it's like. You might also be surprised.

    Spring 2009 Preview! Shinmazinger

Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen - Premiere on April 4th, 2009
    Official website: http://www.shin-mazinger.com/
    My POV: Nothing much to say really ^^;;
My evaluation: NOT WATCHING, I would definitely have watched it if it was a sequel of UFO Robo Grendizer thought :P

    Spring 2009 Preview! Shinkyoku

Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica crimson S - Premiere on April 4th, 2009
    Official website: http://www.polyphonica.tv/
My POV: It's the sequel to "Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica". The new series will again focus on Corticarte, but it will tie into Ichiro Sakaki and Noboru Kannatsuki's Shinkyoku Sōkai Polyphonica crimson S light novel adaptation, which are set during the Academy years of the storyline.
Based on a series of kinetic novels, Polyphonica takes place in a world where people can contract with spirits and bring out their powers with special music --> Human beings rely on the miracles of fairies, while the fairies that have materialized in this world survive on the music played by humans. The fairies' powers are directed by Dantists, who play special music and are widely respected. Most fairies don't usually appear, but some have enough power to materialize in the shapes of human beings or animals to spend their time living in peace together with mankind.

I can't say it doesn't sound interesting if you read the summary above. It's a mix of fantasy, music and magic, which should generally delight me, but it really doesn't -___-
    My evaluation: BAH!~ Not watching.

    Spring 2009 Preview! Valkyria

Senjou no Valkyria: Gallian Chronicles - Premiere on April 4th, 2009
    Official website: http://www.valkyria-anime.com/
My POV: NOW, that's already better!!
This is an anime adaptation of the Japanese tactical role-playing game developed by Sega exclusively for the PlayStation 3. In the 1930's EC, Europa is split by the Empire and the Federation, the two dominant military powers that divide the continent. The two powers struggled for ultimate supremacy, inevitably starting the E.W.II (Second Europan War) involving all of Europa.Gallia, a small independent nation situated between the two super powers now faces attacks from the Imperial Army due to its availability of Ragnite. The Gallian Army is overmatched by the Imperial forces and must retreat quickly. But just when the nation was about to surrender its capital city, one squad leader's unusual strategy defeats the Imperial Army. The name of that young lieutenant was Welkin Gunther and this is his story. (Source: PlayStation 3 manual)
Awesome animation, good story and an epic anime with a genius lieutenant in bonus, supported by a lovely lady XD Nice!
    My evaluation: GOOD!!

haha~~ I will try my best not to "jump at your throat" for dissing PH :P Though is true I am one of those fans who watched out for the chapters [can't wait for Chapter 36 scanlation to come out *___*]but it's also true that the eng version only go up to chapter 11 even now -____-
However, I must say... I am somewhat disappointed by the anime ;_____; The animation is too static and slow. Though I like is the music, songs and Oz voice and that's about it [so far for the 1st episode].

    For all the other series [like Phantom for example], I need the sub version to know what in the world they are talking about before I can jump into conclusion ^^;;;;;
I was thinking of checking out "ghost", what's your thought on that series??

Wow~ Thanks for taking the time to present all of that to us ^^ I normally go for reading manga first because I have more time to do that than watch anime, but a couple of those look interesting. And that shoujo one looks cute, so I'll keep a look out for them and try to watch them ^-^

    Spring 2009 Preview! Crossgame3

Cross Game - Premiere on April 5th, 2009
    Official website: http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/crossgame/
My POV: latest manga *still on going* of the super famous Mitsuru Adachi; if you don't know this mangaka, you are no fan of manga, and no I'm really not exagerating here, yes, he is THAT known ^^; I personally read most of his series and own some of them myself. I've also been reading Cross Game (I think I read around 15 volumes) and I'm delighted to be able to watch it animated :)
Let's make it clear, this is an anime/manga about sport, but not ONLY that, unlike many others series which are constituted with only matches and competitions one after another. There is also an interesting plot story joined with it, and the relationships between the characters is great to follow, as you see them grow up from children to adolescents. Cross Game is a mix of romance/comedy/slice-of-life and baseball.
My evaluation: definitely watching ^^ GOOD!!

    Spring 2009 Preview! Fma2

Fullmetal Alchemist - Premiere on April 5th, 2009
    Official website: http://www.hagaren.jp/
My POV: is there really anyone out there who need my pov or my evaluation about FMA? ^^;; This is a remake of the series which was released a few years back. This new version will be a lot closer to the manga's plot.
    My evaluation: A MUST.

    Spring 2009 Preview! Hanasakeru

Hanasakeru Seishounen - Premiere on April 5th, 2009
    Official website: http://www3.nhk.or.jp/anime/hana/
My POV: well, this is a bit rare? There are as many mature shoujo mangas as stars in the sky, but I dare say pretty much *almost* none of them get an anime adaptation; so it's a surprise to see this one.
A very powerful industrialist directs his daughter to pick a husband from three candidates he has chosen for her. They are to come into her life, and their uniqueness would cause her to recognize them immediately. All three of the candidates are outstanding. Well, it’s actually four...The story evolves along the lines of a power political mystery involving a small middle eastern country.
My evaluation: another shoujo title, but miles away from the previous one listed (Gokujou!! Mecha Mote Iinchou).
I don't think this series will get anymore then 26eps at most, I'll be watching it ^^ That said, this might be considered as a 'girl thing', so I can't objectively say it's 'good' or not ^^; (my brother's reaction was "blah!")
Let's just leave it as a DECENT show.

    Spring 2009 Preview! Guin

Guin Saga - Premiere on April 5th, 2009
    Official website: http://www.guinsaga.net/
My POV: Heroic fantasy + epic battles + a powerful swordsman with a...leopard head?! = KKYYAAHH!!!! XD XD XD
Guin Saga is an anime adaptation of an epic novel series. Beginning with the story of royal twins who, after their parents were slain, get saved by a man with a leopard head named Guin, this novel series currently stretches 125 volumes plus an additional 21 volumes of side stories. Uematsu Nobuo of Final Fantasy fame is in charge of the music.
    There is a LOT of novel material, and the anime will very likely only covers a fraction of it, apart if they're planning to make it into an everlasting anime, which is unlikely the case ^^;;
My evaluation: Watching! A MUST!!. ^__^

    Spring 2009 Preview! Shangrila1

    Shangri-la - Premiere on April 5th, 2009
    Official website: http://www.anime-shangri-la.jp/
My POV:I've heard of it more then once the past years, it's surprising it was *only* adapted in anime now @_@
That said, although I've *heard of it*, for whatever reason I never went deeper and didn't read this actual shounen manga.
So you'll have to get by reading the summaries:
"The story is set in a neo-futuristic age, in which Tokyo has turned into the world’s largest “jungle-polis” that absorbs carbon dioxide. A tower city called Atlas houses the rich and privileged, and is the object of yearning of all that are not allowed to enter. But Atlas also has ancient secrets which cause a sudden whirl of events. Festooned by colorful characters such as a riotous teenage girl, a child genius, a juvenile princess, a drag queen, a female doctor, an army major, and an elderly gentleman and lady, SHANGRI-LA’s hard-core world view plays out as an anime action saga.

A striking vision of Earth's future from some of Japan's foremost creative talents, SHANGRI-LA is a tale of greed and division vs. bravery and the human spirit. Set against the backdrop of a Tokyo cityscape turned into a teeming jungle by runaway global warming, with the elite living in the comfort of the tower city, Atlas, and the less-privileged masses struggling in the squalor in the jungle – only one girl, Kuniko Hojo, and her band of guerrillas can find a way to preserve the future for everyone..
    "
My evaluation: I don't know much, but I will take a risk and believe again in my instincts, this is GOOD

For the animes listed so far, I'm going to be watching Pandora Hearts and K-ON. I will also be watching 07-GHOST, for I believe Miyu Irino will be a character in it. <3

As far as the others go, I'm like "Mehhh" with most, so it'll just depend later I guess. I might look into them.

    Spring 2009 Preview! Eden

Eden of the East - Premiere on April 9th, 2009
    Official website: http://juiz.jp/
My POV: this was love at first sigh! i won't even give a summary nor anything, just watch the PV ^^
This is a terrific anime with a scarily good japanese anime team and producers working on it: character design by Umino Chika (the author of honey and Clover), the animation is by Production IG, Kenji Kamiyama as Director, Screenplay and Original creator (Kenji Kamiyama is the brain behind most of the fabulous Ghost in the Shell stand alone complex series *faints*) and Kenji Kawai charged of the music ^^
    My evaluation: A MUST!!

    Spring 2009 Preview! Sakij

    Saki - Premiere on April 5th, 2009
    Official website: http://www.saki-anime.com/
    My POV: some of you might be familiar with the manga...or not ^^;
Gonzo’s third show for the spring season follows the rise of two high school girls who end up in the same mahjong club on their way to the national tournament. Although it might at first look like a light-hearted series with a lot of cute characters, this is very much a sports series about mahjong. The manga strives to make mahjong exciting, sometimes trying a bit too hard with imaginary sequences, but it’s been a good read.
    My evaluation: DECENT

    07-GHOST - Premiere on April 6th, 2009

My POV: I read the first chapters in...2005/2006 ^^;;; I have a pretty confused memory of this manga but I don't want to spoil myself reading it now when the anime is gonna starts so soon. But I remember enough to say this is no super fabulous breathtaking masterpiece; but again, I believe I enjoyed the read to a certain point and the plot story got its originality...Not the best show of this spring 2009, but a nice series nonetheless to pass time and enjoy the sight of bishounen, this is a shoujo manga after all ;)
    My evaluation: watching, NICE.

    Spring 2009 Preview! Soutenkouro

Souten Kouro - Premiere on April 7th, 2009
    Official website: http://www.ntv.co.jp/souten/
My POV: it definitely got an impressive CV --> "Adaptation of the award winning historical manga Soten Koro. The story of Chinese warlord Cao Cao, authored by King Gonta and Li Hagin, appeared in Kodansha’s Morning magazine from 1994 to 2005 and won the Kodansha Manga Prize in 1998."
Hard to critic when told this ^^; We will see how the actual thing will be I guess. The promo vid is quite alright and I confess I find it quite nice to see an anime about the chinese history, instead of the japanese one, for once ^__^

Hm... I may just check this out just for the heck of it XD XD Especially, I have known/seen/heard so many different version of "this" historic period [whether fiction or non-fiction] in varies Chinese drama series/novel and such... it would be fun to look at HOW the JPN would approach this poppingheart

Seems like I would only be catching maybe "a few" series ^^;; [at least that's the limit I can handle XD]

OH.. and moon-chan... the series who have Miyu in it is not "Ghost" but "Phantom" wink

And thank you very much for taking the time to introducing us to the different series shy
