Cardcaptors VS Cardcaptor Sakura

I hate Cardcaptors(US/Nelvana dubs). [Note: I completely hate all shows that have been dub and cut {or modify} the story or how does that show is view as.]. I can't believe its already 10/11 year from its first manga release in 1996 or 8 years from its first air time on April 7, 1998 in Japan. I still remember the first time I see its commercial on the TV in somewhere 2000.


Compare to Cardcaptors, Cardcaptor Sakura is one of the best anime's i've ever seen.I really,really like the story becuase it's very interestinf,funny and it's not boring.I love Sakura very,very much and also Syaoran.

I understand what you mean. In Cardcaptor it doesn't make as much sense as Cardcaptor Sakura. In CCS there's the name differences in intimacy. Ex: Syaoran never used to address Sakura by her name. He only said 'hey' or 'you'. Later he calls her Sakura-chan or Sakura to show their improved relationship.

In english you just call people by their regular name even if you don't like them. Also the voices aren't as 'childish' as they should be. they actually sound older than 10/11.

Cardcaptors is probably one of the worst anime English dub version I have ever watched. Every episode was just simply cut off! Most of the time, they cut out the most important scene that we viewers keen to see, or even just a scene as simple as Syaoran or Sakura blushing. Many of the cuts made are totally unnecessary. They changed all the main character’s and replaced with crappy English names, for instance: even though Sakura kept her name, her last name, which was originally Kinomoto, has been changed to Avalon, Syaoran's name has been switched around to become Li Showron instead of Syaoran Li, Meiling Li's name was changed to Meilin Rae, and Tomoyo Daidouji was changed to Madison Taylor, Cerberus (Kero-chan) has been changed to Keroberus, Yue's name was kept, but is now pronounced as "You-ay" and Yukito’s name has been changed to Julian Star. What tips me off even more that, they changed all the characters relationship. The relationship between Yukito X Touya is completely cut out!! There is no sign whatsoever of Tomoya having a crush on Sakura or Li having a crush on Yukito, and the relationship between Sakura x Syaoran [Syaoran having a crush on Sakura] was not even shown. Most of the time, they cut and cut and cut! *How dare they did that?* At the end, the show was a completely failure and I didn't even bother to watch it anymore.

I couldn't agree with you more. The anime shouldn't have been dubbed in the first place. One thing I hate the most is how they cut off SakuraXSyaoran's relationship. It's just totally out of characters!

I never saw the dubbed version of CCS, but wow...it's that horrible? Now I'm curious! Lol! :P

It's horrible but funny in a way! Kero's voice sounds so deep and annyoying!

I grew up with the english dub, and then a few months ago I started to watch the Japanese version, and then I found out all this horrible stuff! I mean, THEY DIDN'T EVEN PRONOUNCE SAKURA'S NAME RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they completely erased the love confession in ep 70 which made me very angry. They just skipped that bit out, not finding anything different to say.

But in the Japanese version, I thought their voices were to immature, but in the english version they are to mature in a way. I don't know, it's confusing.

Oh my gosh! I just saw a tiny bit of a dubbed episode and I felt like throwing up! Why do they call Tomoyo Madison? Why do they pronounce Sakura's name wrong? Syaoran sounded so stupid! Actually everyone sounded stupid! What did they do!? I coulden't see the rest of the episode becuase of it, it was just a minute or two and I stopped watching. I'm happy that I stopped!

I heard rumors that they were going to change Sakura's name to Nikki but unfortunately, they decided not to since it will mess up with the whole story plots.XD

Nikki!? So it'll be called Card Captor Nikki then, that'll totally ruin it. Has CLAMP said anything about this horrible dub version of one of the cutest series that I have ever watch and read about?

If they did, I bet that they were pretty angry about it. I mean, they were extremely angry at the makers that didn't have Tokyo...

But that would have completely messed upo the ep where Tomoyo's mum shows Sakura the cherry blossoms and yeah

I would say Cardcaptors is the worst dub I have ever seen, though I am watching YuGiOh SUBBED at the moment, and the original is pretty bad.

Though, the cardcaptor US anime is just so bad. They started on episode 7 or 8, cant remember witch, then skipped another few. All the romance is gone, most of the storyline is gone, most of the captures are gone.

They like tear away at the essence of the show without reason.


The original more than makes up for it though, its amazing.

Both movies were awesome, but yeah, I agree that the dubbed version was absolutely horrible. I prefer watching the original version with subs all the way.

Well, I just like listening to things in my own language, and I grew up with CC so I don't complain. I just wish that they hadn't deleted the bloomng romance!!

Going against the grain here, I remember i liked the Cardcaptor series when I first saw it.

Admittedly I only saw the first 3 videos (borrowed from my library) so I didnt see how much was edited or omited so i cant make the comparison.

But I remember I quite liked the voice actors they had chosen for the English dub, even though the pronunciation of Sakura's name was incorrect, and that they changed the names altogether.

Heck when i first saw it i thought the Syaorans name really WAS LEE SHOWRON!

Major mistake on their part, but hey its america for little american kids, are they going to encourage another countries culture when those kids barely understand their own?

Well, each people have different perspectives and opinions. As for me, I hate Cardcaptors because there are variety of reasons. The Cardcaptors show is not only for American younger audiences but for whole younger audiences around the world. Cardcaptors show began in Australia in 2000 and the first time I watched it when I was 10 years old, and I have to admit that I was drawn to the anime. When my friends lended me CCSakura series [ that time, CCSakura was already out before Cardcaptors] , the japanese version to watch, I noticed there were major partly differ to Cardcaptors series in comparison to the origninal one. And yet, I prefered the original one over the Cardcaptors because I heard that show is targeted only for boys audiences, and some of the scences I was expected to see was never happened in Cardcaptors. And so at the end, the show was a completley failure due to the mistake in their part and most of the kids I had known didn't bother to watch it anymore because they were able to compare between the original and non-orginal ones and so you see, the show does encourage another countries culture and kids do understand their own.

their mistake was in trying to make syaoran equal to sakura (though at least they didn't try to make it Cardcaptor Lee and make Sakura only the love interest), and in deleting everything that even hinted of a forbidden romance.

but they got what they wished for: Cardcaptors is infamous now, in the fandom, yea? XD they made something so horrible, people watch it just so they could say that they have and rant about it. XD

I watched pretty much all of CC when it first came out, truly what got me into anime, and at the time I thought it was a great show. That was until I went online to learn more about it and found out about CCS, and I unintentially spoiled the plot, by reading about Syaoran's love confession, and at the last episode, I waiting for him to confess it, and he didn't! I was fuming mad. I eventually found the series online, and instantly fell in love <3 It was my first subbed anime. I now own the entire series, including the manga and all the artbooks, and I thank CC for this XD If it didn't screw up the show so much, I wouldn't like anime quite so much. So while I'll never watch the dub again, I am grateful to it for introducing me to a wonderful fandom <3

I remember when Cardcaptors came on the Canadian Teletoon channel, I think I was in about the 9th or 10th grade...I didn't know what CCS was at the time, so I watched this o_O it was definitely meant for an audience of like, 3 year old girls. Ugh. Thankfully, I later discovered the real CCS <3

Normally I like English dubs, I find that most companies have improved over the years, like FUNimation, which I don't mind their newer stuff, especially what's put on the uncut DVDs and such.

Cardcaptors is by far one of the worst dubs I've seen, along side the Ocean Group dub of Dragonball GT and also the Yu Yu Hakusho movie 2 dub by U.S. Manga Corps =_=
