Whenever I visit borders, which has a huge selection of different mangas there is just one series I can never find there. I have been wanting to get a particular volume of it, but of course the stores doesn't even carry any of the volumes at all. I could just purchase it online but sometimes it's nice to just have it right then when you are in the bookstore. Does anyone else come across this?

Yes, I have been there many times. Sam Goodie was one of them. They had Manga that lined the wall, and I bought many of them. Then one day, they got rid of it. There was no manga there for a year, it was sad. They have more manga now, but only a self full. I buy most my manga online now...because its the only way I can get the ones I want.

*raises hand* Me too! I find the whole thing annoying for me because I'm collecting lot lot lot lot of manga for long time. My pet peeve for Borders (Waterstones for me) when they rid of random manga that I plan to buy. For example I want to buy Blade of the Immortal manga, I saw full set 1-20 volumes available. So I bought first few volumes 1 to 3 because it is very expensive to get all at once. Then next week I came back to WS to get more volumes but to my dismay I discovered that WS got rid rest of volumes that I NEED! Now where do I buy, online but risk getting manga damaged. Consider that Borders/WS is lot better than Barnes and Nobles. B&N stick their stupid RFID (security device) tag on manga...it is very sticky and ruins manga.
So I been careful what I buying at Waterstones, if it is new release that I need, I'll buy it.
To start new series...depend on popularity, how long series it is, checking quality, etcs...
If it is popular then high chance Borders/WS will keep them, Too long series then likely "forget it" but if it is very very popular like Naruto then grab it, short series then take them as many I can, quality...lot of damages then forget it not worth my time to searching great condition, good condition, grab them many as I can.
My greatest qualms about Borders/WS...they nearly almost never stock anything new release on right date...often they delay it...I had to wait for less than few weeks to get them.

Ugh. . . . . the mangas I can't seem to get. . . . well lets put it simply, Tokyo Bablyon! *sigh* I've been looking for the manga for over a year now and still no hope. . . though, in a Border store, they only had vol. 3, 5 and 7, but that wasn't good enough for me since I wanted the entire series! But, I think I should've got the volumes anyways, but alas I didn't. . . but thankfully, my school libary is getting Tokyo Bablyon in Febuary! Yay!
X/1999 is one too, but I'm not worrying to much since my school library has some of the volumes, but I asked them to get some more. Ohohohohoho. My librarian's awesome! I was telling her what mangas we need and she agreed that we need more mangas, and I asked her if she read any mangas and she said she read some of Full Metal Alchemist.
Well, I gues Tokyo Bablyon's really the only manga series that I'm dying to get right now. . .

It happens to me all the time, whenever I want to get a manga for once >.< Compared to the Barnes and Nobles near where I live, Borders has a crapload more of manga than them; B&N only has one measly little bookshelf while Borders has 3 or 4 huge rows full :D But even then, like Hokuto-chan said above, there aren't any TB or X volumes there when I looked for it. Neither were all of the volumes of Count Cain/Godchild, which I really wanted D: All of the more popular manga like Naruto or Ouran are displayed, but none of the older, but still awesome manga T_T

I can never find the volumes of Tokyo Mew Mew that I need when I go out to look for them. They always have the volume before or after... but I don't think the one after yet. T_T
I also have had trouble finding Tokyo Babylon. I did find all seven volumes in one location once... but I had no money. >.<

Well, I am very lucky. We have two mangastores in Hannover, my favourite one is called "Comix"^^. They have every German manga that is available and they can order mostly every american manga as well. They have everything I need (except for japanese maga, they made bad experiences with them). They also have a huge amount of anime there and some artbooks, too.Tzey have quite a lot of merchandising, they had all Clamp in 3d land volumes and Clamp in card land volumes...I guess, hat is what you call paradise^^

You are lucky, Shaolan. I'd like an anime store that has more varity in their mech. I mean, I do live close to a store called Sweet Kitty that has anime mech. but not that much of it. It's not a big collection of different things. I can find animes, posters, music and playing cards. However if I wanted something such as cat ears or I don't know, a CLAMP 3D Land Volume, they don't carry stuff like that. I have to wait until I attend an anime convention before I can purchase things that I cannot at Sweet Kitty.

Hmm... I bought many volume of Fushigi Yuugi from Waterstones, over a decent period of time, only to go there one day, and find they didn't stock it anymore, and haven't since...
Come to think of it, they don't have many manga... There was something else I was going to buy from there (I can't even remember what it was now...), nad they didn't stock it...
They have loads of Bleach, and Death Note and Naruto, but only a few volumes of other series'...

I have been looking EVERYWHERE for Sailor Moon, and I can't find it anywhere! I've checked online, at Borders, Barnes & Noble, and I can't find any complete volumes T_T And the scanlations aren't complete -_-
