What's Normal Anyway
A seagull is heard in the distance, the vast ocean leading up to a shore, a teen stands alone, looking as far as he can see. He always came here ever since that day, the day that changed his life, the day he killed his best friend. This was were he stood with his bloody sword, in shock, all though years ago. This teen was a prince, a happy one at that. The boy looked down at the cliff were his friend’s body laid. He killed his friend to set him free. The prince looked down at the cliff remembering what his friend told him all those lifetime's ago.
“Hey Kai.” Said a 16-year-old.
“Yeah Danata.” Said the young ten-year-old prince.
“You do know we are enemies right?” Danata said casually.
“Yeah so what, I know you wont kill me, and I know I wont kill you,....... Danata?” Danata was silent. “I'm not so sure of that Kai.”
Kai looked at his friend. “ What do you mean Danata?”
Danata knew what it meant. He always tries to warn Kai of things to come. Danata was not normal, he was gifted with two gifts, one is to see the future, and the other was unknown to anyone. Even though Danata was different he sure did not act like it, for he didn’t care, his motto was “what normal anyway”. When people came to him and asked him about their future. Danata always said no. Kai didn’t care if Danata was different, because Danata was like a brother to him and it was the same with Danata, but that changed when Kai was going to turn 11.
The cold wind blew past the now older Kai. He let out a little smile. Being brotherly like to Danata probably saved him. Kai cast his eyes down the cliff to see white roses.
“It has been a long, hasn't it?”
Kai remembered the day Danata killed his little sister and almost him.
It was a cloudless night Kai and his little sister, Tarala, were playing hide and seek in the indoor palace garden. Kai looked around the area for his sister, hoping his watchers wouldn't sculled them for staying up late. Kai was getting tired of trying to find his six-year-old sister.
“Tarala come on out now” Kai whispered. The moon was so bright that night that it lit everything up. It was a beautiful red moon. As Kai looked around once again, something caught his eye that was strange. It was a red rose, it was open, but not only that, the red rose was in a batch of white roses and they were closed. A chill ran up Kai’s spine, he remembered what Danata told him that same day.
“Kai if you see a red rose in a batch of white roses, I want you to leave that area, no matter what.” Kai never answered him what it meant; now he wished he did. Panic started to rise within him. “Tarala if you don’t come out, I’ll leave you.” Kai said more nervously. Tarala did not show. “Tarala........” Silence. Kai knew something was wrong. Then it happened a cry, no a scream of a child, it was Tarala. “Tarala!” Kai yelled as he ran towords the scream. As Kai drew near he saw a figure, it was Danata, and he had his sword drawn.
“Danata?”
Danata looked at Kai. “I told you to leave whenever you saw a red rose.” Danata said coldly.
Kai looked at Danata, then his sword. Kai’s face showed fear.
“What?” Kai said in shock, Danata’s sword was covered in blood.
Kai steped back. “Where’s Tarala.” He said shakaly.
Danata pointed to the ground. “Were do you think she is.”
Kai looked past Danata to see a limp body, he knew who it was.
“Tarala” Kai cried as he ran past Danata. As Kai drew near he saw were the sword had penetrated her body, it was through her chest.
Kai cradled his little sister. “Why?” He said crying.
“It is because we are enemies and because of your power.” He said cruelly.
“What power?”
“The power you will have on your 11 party. The same powers that I have. You will live for centuries never dieing or being killed by anyone, but you can only die by my and my families’ hands. It is the same fate with you, as well with my life.” He said as he raises his sword.
“Then why did you kill Tarala?” He said confused.
“You sister would also have her power as well, but I could not have that.” He was about to let the blow go, but it was stopped by a guard’s sword.
“Prince please leave this place.” Yelled the guard. Kai just stayed there in shock, still holding his sister. Kai was then moved my another guard that had also heard Tarala’s scream.
The last thing he saw of Danata was he killing the guard. Kai was taken to a heavily guarded area.
Kai looked at the ocean, taking a deep breath. “Was there a reason why you didn’t kill me?” Kai said to him self. Kai looked around. It was getting late. “I guess they won’t be here for a while.”
Kai said boringly. Kai turned around to grab a bag. It was long enough to hold a long object. Kai unzipped the bag to pull out a sword. Kai looked at the sword and stared at his image. As he looked he remembered that day he killed Danata.
Kai had just escaped from the palace that was guarded heavily, with the help of an old warrior. He led him through the maze of the castle. When they made it to the end of the maze the old warrior and the Prince were about to part, but the old warrior stopped him from going so soon.
“Yong prince, you have no weapon. Here take may sword.” The warrior said. “It will protect you.”
Kai look at the sword and took it. “Thank you.” He said.
Kai turned to leave; yet the warrior still wanted him to stay.
“Young Prince, do you know why Danata wants to kill you.” He said.
Kai turned to look at him “Yes I wish to know.”
“It is because he wants you to be free and not live for many centuries as he had. He dosn't want everyone you care about grow old and die before your eyes.” He said gravely.
“How do you know this?” He asked.
“I’m an old man my prince, I’m told many things.” He said. “Do you know how old Danata is?”
“No I don’t.” Kai said.
“He is over 8-century years old. Even though he looks 16.”
Kai looked down at the ground. “I’ll set Danata free.”
“That's good, then he will be able to see his family again.”
“What happened to his family? Who were they?”
“ Danata killed them, his mother, father and his little brother.”
“Danata had a little brother?” He said shocked.
“Yes, he once told me that you looked a lot like him.”
Kai waved his head. “I must go.”
The old warrior stated silent. Kai turned to leave.
“Good luck, my prince, Live on!” He yelled.
Kai knew were Danata was going to be. He was going to be at the cliff. There hang out spot to get away from the guards.
Just as Kai thought Danata was there. This cliff was the first place they met and it was the end for one of them. Danata saw Kai.
“Hm....” He hummed. “ I see you came to get revenge for killing your sister.” Danata said with a cold smile.
“No Danata, I came here to set you free.” Kai yelled. He was ready to fight; Danata to was ready for the battle.
“Oh really? Then who will set you free?” He asked.
“I’ll find away.” He spat.
Danata charged first then Kai started to charge. A clang of two swords were clashing, a small battle was going on. Danata was wining. But Kai stuck on one thought, the thought of setting Danata free. Then it happened, Danata made a swing, Kai ducked and plunged the sword through Danata’s heart. That fatal blow shocked both Kai and Danata. Danata’s face showed a sign of relief. He smiled at Kai. “Thank you...” Danata looked down at him. “ I’m sorry....”
Kai didn’t move, didn’t speak, he just stone there in shock. Danata moved back to pull the sword out of his body; the sword fell with a clang. He started to fall of the cliff;
“ You set me free.” Kai stood there, he slowly sank to the ground and started crying.
Kai stood over the cliff and looked at the sword that killed Danata. “Well my friend...” Kai said. “ This will be my last and final visit.”
Kai through the sword over the cliff. The clang was silenced by the roar of the waves crashing against the rocky walls.
“One day I will be able to see you again, but it won’t be soon.” Kai turned around to leave. “I still got a long way to go.”
A sound of a car horn was heard. “ Hay Kyle sorry to keep you waiting.” Said a 15-year-old boy. “It was Clare’s fault.”
“No it wasn’t Mick.” Yelled Clare, she was an 18 year old. “Now come on we’re going to miss the movie.” She said.
“I’m coming, just a sec.” He yelled back.
Mick looked at Kyle. “So, why did you want to come here Kyle?” Mick asked.
“Yeah and alone too.” Said Clare. “It’s not normal for you to do that you know.”
Kyle looked at Clare and Mick, his friends. “I know, but hey, what’s normal anyway. Right?” He said.
“You know Kyle you never cease to amaze me.” Clare said. “Now come on lets go to the movies ok.”
Kyle raised his eye brow. “Who’s going to pay for the tickets?” He said slyly. Clare looked at him in a mean way. “If you don’t get in the car I’ll leave you here.”
Kyle laughed. “OK, ok, I’m coming.” He said.
As the car drove off, Kyle looked back at the cliff one last time. Remembering what Danata told him once at the cliff? “What’s normal anyway!” Kyle smiled at that.
“Hay Kyle what are you smiling about?” Mick asked.
“An old memory.” He replayed, leaning in the back seat of the car.
“Hey Kyle” said Clare. “Could you tell us a story on the way there?”
Kyle smirked at this. “Ok.” Kyle started. “ Over 6 centuries ago lived a young prince named Kai...............”
